How do nonprofits manage programs and projects?
A program is the ongoing work you do, like a food pantry or a tutoring club. Have a project to launch or wrap up inside it? Add it as a milestone and track it right alongside the program. Your programs and the projects within them stay in one place, not scattered across tools.
What kinds of goals can I set?
Three kinds: a number to reach, an amount to raise, or a milestone to hit. Set a target and a timeframe, pick which one matters most, and its progress bar fills in as you go. An amount to raise fills in from money recorded in Giving or Budget for that program.
Where do the reach numbers come from?
You enter them, for a week, a month or a single day. Each program counts what matters to it, like meals served or families helped, and you choose which figures appear on your public page.
How do you show a program actually worked?
Give it goals: a number to reach, an amount to raise, or a milestone to hit. Each goal shows whether you are on pace for the month, quarter or year you set, and the same goals sit beside your numbers in your impact reports. Each week your team can add a short reflection, one win and one thing to change, and a win becomes a story in one tap.
Can I pause a seasonal program?
Yes. Wrap it up when the season ends and everything stays put: reach, goals, and reflections are all kept. Make it active again when the season comes back around.
Do you store personal details about the people we serve?
No. Programs counts how many people you reached, but it’s not a case management system and keeps no personal records about them. That’s on purpose. Those records carry real risk for the people in them, and you rarely need them to answer a funder anyway. The one exception is Stories: when you record a release to share a story, Ember keeps the name of the person who gave it, which only owners and admins can see.
Is it really free?
Yes. There’s a real free tier with unlimited users and no trial clock. As your budget grows, a simple subscription scales with it, and every tier includes every app. Here’s how pricing works.
Do we need the other Ember apps?
No, Programs works fine on its own. Add Time and Budget shows the staff time each program took beside what it spent. Add Volunteers and Impact Reports counts volunteer time in what the work cost. A program can also appear on your public page once you put one of its counts or goals there.

Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, never sold, and always yours to export. We’re built privacy-first, with your donors’ trust in mind. Read our privacy commitment.
