How do nonprofits schedule and track volunteers?
Post your shifts and share one sign-up link. Volunteers claim the spots that work for them, their hours record when you check them in, and volunteers with an Ember login can log a shift they served in a tap for you to approve. The totals roll into your reports, and coordinating stops eating your week.
Can volunteers sign up and log their own hours?
Anyone can sign up for a shift from your one link with just a name and an email: no account, no password. Your first 25 public sign-ups need nothing more from you; confirm your EIN to raise the limit. A confirmation email follows with the details. Their hours record when you check them in at the shift, and volunteers with an Ember login can log a shift they served in a tap, for you to approve. When they confirm their own details, those details stay theirs.
How do I know which shifts still need people?
Your schedule shows each shift’s coverage at a glance, like “8 of 12 filled,” days ahead. So you fill the gaps early instead of scrambling on the morning of. Each program emails volunteers a reminder 3 days before their shift, and you can add 2 weeks, 1 week or 1 day before.
Do I still have to chase volunteers for their availability?
No. When volunteers with an Ember login join, Ember asks once when they’re usually free, on a simple weekly grid they can change any time. When you post a shift, Ember suggests the best times for it and how many volunteers are free then, counting only the ones with the skills the program lists. Volunteers see which open shifts fit their usual times, so the shift finds the people instead of you finding them.
How do you keep volunteers from drifting away?
Ember marks a volunteer Lapsing once it’s been over two months since you last saw them and nothing is booked. Each week, owners, admins and program staff get a short note naming theirs, so you can reach out while it still matters.
Do volunteers need to download an app?
No. They sign up from a link on their phone, and volunteers with an Ember login log their shifts there too, with nothing to install.
Is it really free?
Yes. There’s a real free tier with unlimited users and no trial clock. As your budget grows, a simple subscription scales with it, and every tier includes every app. Here’s how pricing works.
Do we need the other Ember apps?
No, Volunteers works fine on its own. Every shift belongs to a program, and Impact Reports shows the volunteer hours each program took and counts them in what the work cost.
