The problem

The money worry that never quite switches off.

Nobody handed you a finance team, just every dollar to answer for and a 2 a.m. question about that restricted grant. Let Ember hold the numbers so you can sleep.

What it feels like with Ember in your corner

Imagine opening the books without holding your breath.

Imagine it: the treasurer asks how the youth program is doing, and you just turn your screen around! What came in, what went out and what's left of its restricted grant are all right there.

You know what's spoken for and where each program stands against its budget, and the money stops being a knot in your chest.

Open the books, and breathe out.

Sound like what you need?

See every dollar clearly, and sleep a little easier tonight.

Who it's for

Built for the person who answers for every dollar.

Whether you're the director, the bookkeeper or the volunteer treasurer doing it on Sunday nights, you carry the trust that the money's handled right. Ember keeps each program's gifts and costs in one clear place, so that trust is easy to keep.

Whatever your cause

Built for the work you do.

Food banks, animal rescues, youth programs, clinics, arts groups, river cleanups: Ember fits every kind of nonprofit.

On your side

Finally, tools that treat you fairly.

Most tools were built for big companies, then priced to punish you for growing. Ember is built the other way around:

Made to fit how you work

Shaped around how nonprofits actually work, not a corporate tool squeezed into a nonprofit-shaped box.

Your whole team, included

Add every staffer, board member and volunteer you like, because you're never charged per person.

Your data stays yours

Export it anytime, and it’s never sold.

Frequently asked questions

Good questions, honest answers.

How does budgeting work for a nonprofit in Ember?

Budget is organized by program, not a wall of accounts: give each program a budget for the year, then record gifts and costs against it as they happen. What's raised and what's spent fill in as you go, so the picture stays current with no month-end scramble.

How do you keep restricted grant money straight?

When you record a gift, you can restrict it to a program, and those dollars stay in their own lane. You see the balance draw down within the fiscal year as costs land against it, and Ember flags any program that's spent past its restricted funds, so a grant gets spent the way you promised.

Can I tell what's actually safe to spend?

Partly. Each program shows what it has spent against its budget, what it has raised against its goal if you set one, and what's left this year of the money given for it. If your flexible money drops below zero, meaning overhead is running on money given for programs, the overview tells you. So you can see what's promised to a program before you spend it somewhere else.

Who can see the donor and funder names?

Only owners and admins. The source on each gift is kept private, and other roles see the totals without the names. The in and out ledgers are role-scoped too, so financial detail stays with the people who need it. More on how we handle this in our privacy commitment.

Do staff pay and volunteer hours go in here?

No. Budget holds your direct costs, things like supplies, rent, mileage, and contractors. Staff pay comes from Time and volunteer value comes from Volunteers, so you don't key the same numbers twice.

Where do these numbers show up for funders?

Your direct costs flow into your Impact Reports, right next to the goals they paid for. When a report’s due, the cost of the work is already sitting there beside the results.

Do we need the other Ember apps?

No. Budget uses the programs you set up in Programs, which every account includes, so every budget lines up with the work it funds. Add Grants and each award's spend-down comes from the costs you record here, without extra typing.

Is it really free?

Yes. There's a real free tier with unlimited users and no trial clock. As your budget grows, a simple subscription scales with it, and every tier includes every app. Here's how pricing works.

Is our money data safe?

Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, never sold, and always yours to export. We're built privacy-first, and your financial detail stays scoped to the roles that should see it. Read our privacy commitment.
