Volunteer hours log sheet maker

Add your volunteers, dates and hours, and the totals add up as you type, by person and by program. Then print it as a log sheet or download it as a CSV.

Need a community service hours sheet for school or court? Switch the layout. You get one person, every date, and a column for the supervisor's initials. Nothing you type leaves this page.

For school or court: the community service layout

Pick For school or court at the top of the maker. The sheet switches to one person across many dates. Each line gets a box for the supervisor's initials, and there's space to sign at the bottom.

Add the number of hours required and the sheet shows how many are left.

Check first whether the school, court or program has its own form. Some do, and will only take theirs. If they accept your own log, this one puts the date, the hours and the supervisor's initials on every line.

Keeping a log people trust

  1. Write it down the same day. Hours remembered a month later are guesses, and guesses get questioned.
  2. One line per shift. Date, name, hours. Running more than one program? Put the program on every line so the totals split cleanly.
  3. Use the same program names every time. "Pantry" and "Food pantry" count as two programs. Once you've typed a name, the maker offers it again.
  4. Print a few blank lines. Leave the sheet out at the shift and people can write in their own hours.
  5. For the bigger questions, like which hours to count and how to keep it going all year, read how to track volunteer hours.

Questions

What should a volunteer hours log include?

The date, the volunteer's name, what they worked on (the program or the task) and the hours. A community service hours log also needs the supervisor's initials on each line and a signature at the bottom. A school or court wants to know who can vouch for the hours.

How do I make a community service hours sheet?

Choose For school or court in the maker above. Add the person's name, who the hours are for and the supervisor. Then add one line per date with what they did and the hours. Print it, and have the supervisor initial each line and sign at the bottom.

How do I total volunteer hours?

Add up the hours for each person and for each program. The maker does it as you type and prints both totals under the log. The CSV has them too, below the entries.

What is a volunteer hour worth?

Independent Sector puts the national value of a volunteer hour at $36.14 for 2025, released in April 2026. Tick Show the dollar value to add it to the log, or type your state's figure instead. The volunteer hour value calculator explains where the number comes from.

Is it free, and where does what I type go?

It's free, with no account. Everything stays in your browser. Your log is saved on this device so you can come back and add to it, and Start over clears it. Ember never receives it.

Can I open the CSV in Excel or Google Sheets?

Yes. The CSV opens in Excel, Google Sheets and Numbers, with one row per entry and the totals underneath.

In Ember Volunteers, hours record when you check people in. Volunteers with an Ember login can log a shift in a tap, for you to approve. They see every hour they've given in their own portal, and Impact Reports shows the volunteer hours each program took.
